SSAPCO Quarterly Update: October – December 2024

The Salmon Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition (SSAPCO) is excited to share updates from an impactful final quarter of 2024. From engaging youth and hosting innovative events to fostering collaboration with key community stakeholders, SSAPCO has made significant strides in promoting substance abuse prevention across Salmon. Here’s a recap of our recent accomplishments:

October Highlights: Red Ribbon Week and Community Engagement

Merchant Trick-or-Treat: Over 400 residents and students participated in our alcohol and drug-free Merchant Trick-or-Treat event, creating a safe and fun Halloween experience for families.

Zombie Walk Against Fentanyl: Our First Annual Zombie Walk brought 29 participants together to raise awareness about fentanyl dangers. With broad exposure through social media, newspapers, and radio, the event was a resounding success in highlighting this critical issue.

Red Ribbon Week Booth and Presentations:
SSAPCO hosted a drug prevention booth during Red Ribbon Week and delivered an engaging Natural Highs presentation to local elementary students. These efforts inspired conversations about drug-free lifestyles among our youngest community members.

Youth Leadership and Mentorship: Coordinator Amber Pace held leadership meetings with 16 students, while Director Michael Pearse guided Peer Mentorship leaders who introduced 9th-grade students to healthy choices in high school.

November Highlights: Expanding Youth and Community Initiatives

Red Ribbon Week Follow-Up Celebration: Middle school students and teachers came together for a follow-up event focusing on Natural Highs, with 42 attendees learning about healthy alternatives to substance use.

Board Game Night for Youth: Our alternative activity provided a safe and fun evening for youth at the local coffee shop, with board games and social interaction from 8 PM to 12 AM.

Gratitude Campaign: Peer mentors launched a Gratitude Campaign, fostering positivity and community spirit while promoting drug-free values.

Law Enforcement Collaboration: Director Michael Pearse attended the Law Enforcement SRO Coalition Meeting to address vaping issues and enhance prevention strategies through collaboration with local leaders.

December Highlight: Whobilation Brings the Community Together

Whobilation Event: On December 13th, SSAPCO hosted the heartwarming Whobilation Event, where over 200 community members gathered for a festive dinner and a chance to meet the Grinch. This event brought families together in a spirit of joy and unity while emphasizing the importance of celebrating without substance use. The evening was a perfect close to a productive year, strengthening bonds within the Salmon community.

Promotions and Outreach
Throughout the quarter, SSAPCO maximized community awareness by promoting events through flyers, radio spots, and social media campaigns. Social media analysis showed significant public engagement, helping us reach a broad audience with our prevention messaging and event invitations.
